I decided to set some goals for October.
First off I'm going to blog every day. I'm not promising anything interesting, witty or even coherent, but I hope to write every day.
Secondly, I am going to eat a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup every day. Everyone probably thinks I already do. I wish!
My third goal is to send an email, card, or make a phone call to say thank you or I'm thinking of you or I'm glad you're in my life etc... to someone, everyday.
Fourthly, I'm going to stand naked in front of the mirror everyday and say things to myself like, "I love and accept you even if you have relief society arms and a pear shape." I'll try to do this with a straight face.
Fifth and last: I will take at least five pictures every day, one of them being of myself. When I tried to find a picture of myself for Facebook I realized I don't have many because it's usually me behind the camera!
Anyone want to set some October goals?

Nice Shower Curtain!
Kent and I just returned from what I'm calling our 24th honeymoon. Our anniversary was in June, but I was sick and a stick in the mud and this was really our first chance to get away someplace by ourselves. We didn't go anywhere exotic since it was only for 3 days and 2 nights, but St. George in September is nice. It was in the 90's the whole time we were there.
As far as the title to my blog though: Kent found a good deal on a motel room at the Days Inn in St. George. The deal was $50 a night for a king sized bed and if we signed up for their club they'd give us $30 off. (Even if we cancel within 30 days we still get the $30 off, which we'll do.) So, the room was only $35 a night. You know the saying: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." You get what you pay for. The outside of the motel left a lot to be desired. It needed new paint and repairs. I figured I could live with that though if the inside was okay. At first glance it seemed fine. Then I turned a light on in the bathroom and saw the missing tab that holds the toilet seat on, the awful grout on the tiled floor, the dirt in the corners and the porcelain that been pulled up in the tub from the mat (I guess). In the bedroom part there was a very ugly painting, but wait, the same exact painting was on the next wall, 3 feet away! Also, the two chairs we had to sit on were like wicker patio furniture with thin cushions that previous guests had written their initials on. The fake plaster table that supported a circle of glass had a broken corner ... and well, you get the picture. I had failed to notice the shower curtain though until that night when I was taking a shower. It was curved out so the curtain didn't touch me and it was actually cute! I mentioned to Kent how much I liked the shower curtain. I think he was glad to hear me say something positive about the room he had found so every time after that thatI found something negative, instead of commenting I would just say, "Nice shower curtain." I should be honest and say there were some other positive things too, like a microwave and fridge that worked and free wi-fi. The hot tub was nice too and there was never anyone in it. Actually we hardly saw anyone at the motel. Not surprising. Woops, think positive. Nice shower curtain.

We had a lot of fun doing what we wanted when we wanted to. We bought a $7.50 DVD double feature at Walmart of "Apocalypse 10.5" and "Category 7" which are disaster movies. The first was better than the second. We ate lots of junk food and ate at our favorite restaurants.
Thursday morning we went to the St. George Temple. Neither one of us had been there before and I mentioned that to the Sister by the front desk. She pulled out a couple of temple stickers for us to wear. "Dork dots". Mine worked because I had all sorts of help from Sister officiators but Kent was on his own with where to go. The temple was beautiful and we had fun at dinner that night making a list of all the temples we'd been inside and the ones we'd personally seen on the outside.
One of the main reasons we chose St. George was because
I'd seen an advertisement on TV for Les Miserables at the Tuacahn Theater. We'd never been to the Tuacahn before. It was magnificent and the production was awesome. Two of the main characters were performed by understudies but I couldn't tell. It made me want to scrape together all of my miniscule talents and trade them in for just a bit of their singing abilities.
All in all it was a relaxing, relationship strengthening, fill up your empty tank so you can go back to real life three days. And there was a nice shower curtain!

Shrimpfest
Kent and I went to Red Lobster last night with Nanette, Chris and their boys. Mmm, mmm, good. Chris has been looking forward to this for a year because it it was all you can eat shrimp, which is what he and Kent had. Nanette had salmon and I FINALLY got some rainbow trout! I have been wanting trout for months but no one has been able to catch me some and I can't find it in the stores anymore. It was delicious and I got the full fish so I have half to eat for lunch today. Yum!

Labor Day (Finally)
I know Labor Day was a week ago, but I'm slow and our whole family has had the stomach flu. When I say the whole family, I mean the WHOLE family. Well, Katie has some kind of magic pregnancy antibodies because she didn't get it and we didn't transmit it via email to Dane, but even Chris (I never get sick Gamble) and Melanie (I refuse to throw up Jensen) got it.
But I digress. Back to Labor Day weekend. Naomi had to labor (on Labor Day weekend! :0) so sadly she wasn't able to go with us, but the rest of us, Nanette, Chris, Ethan, Logan, Kent, Nick, Caleb and I went to Rawlins to visit Katie and Aaron.
On Saturday we went to Martin's Cove which is only 45 minutes away from Rawlins. It was a hot day and we were grateful for the ever present Wyoming wind. After a picnic lunch of good old peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam sandwiches we pulled a handcart on a 5 mile round trip trek. I should be honest and say that some pushed and some pulled and some just walked like I did. I even rode part of the way back. Ethan enjoyed riding in the handcart and Logan rode in an umbrella stroller in the handcart and even took a nap part of the way. Only Chris, Aaron, Nick & Caleb made it all the way to the Cove itself, but we had a wonderful, if exhausting, time together and once again decided we are glad to live now and not in pioneer times.

That night Katie & Aaron's dog was sprayed by a skunk, which was an experience I hope to never have again, but I'll leave that for her blog.
Katie & Aaron spoke in their Sacrament Meeting the next day (which is one of the reasons we went to Rawlins) and did a great job. It was there that our first sign of the flu showed up though. Logan threw up and unbeknownst to Kent was throwing up again as Kent was rushing him out and got it on the bench in front of us and on the little girl's back that was sitting on that bench in front of us. Aaron did a good job of continuing his talk while this was going on center stage a few rows in front of him. Luckily we were all well the next day so we could travel home, but then the fun began!
Speaking of the trip home: We stopped in Kemmerer, Wyoming to eat dinner about 7:00. There weren't many options but I was excited that there was an Arctic Circle because I love their halibut and fries. We pulled up to park and this is what we saw on the door:
How dumb is that? Besides the bad grammar, what about running to the grocery store? I guess that's not fair because I don't know what time they had "ran" out. I was just upset that I didn't get my halibut. My turkey on wheat from Subway was almost as good though. Little did I know it was the best meal I would have for many days. I hope to become once again Melanie (I refuse to throw up) Jensen.
